Losing my marbles!!
Three weeks ago was just another such meeting, when a call was put through to the office we were in and my trade partner took the call, I only heard one side of the conversation it went a bit like this:
Trade partner : "Hello, nice to speak to you again, hows things?"
Pause for answer from other party
TP: "Yeah I'm fine thanks" more small talk . "What can I do for you today?"
Pause
TP : "Yeah I'd be up for that, hang on." Turns to look at me " You're up for a laugh aren't you Steve?"
Me: " Yeah why?"
TP: " OK put me down and Steve"
Then more details were requested, full name, address etc
When he put the phone down i asked " what have you just volunteered me for?"
TP " Oh its abseiling down the side of 1 Hagley Rd in Brum ( Birmingham)
Me thinking I had misheard : "What?"
He repeated and I hadn't
Me: "Are you bloody mad? How tall is this building?"
TP " Awww dont worry its not that big.Anyway I have told them you'll do it now and its for kids that are blind and stuff"
So as I said instead of saying no I said ok and thats how I ended up having an appointment next Saturday to do this
So if you feel the need to help an old insane man make a complete fool of himself by crying whilst decending, I think, 300ft down the side of the building send some money to me via paypal ( My account is ste2601@aol.com) and I will add it to my sponsor form for Birmingham Focus on Blindness. You can have a look at their website here
Photos of me being rescued by helicopter will probably be on here some time the week after the event and in the Birmingham Evening Mail the following day.
